SMOGCON 2015 – part 5

Nick’s account of SMOGCON is very good

The final day of SMOGCON was perhaps the most important to me due to the judging of the inaugural P3 UK competition. I had been keeping an eye on the cabinet over the weekend and there was some nice stuff in it but nothing really spectacular. I thought I might have a chance so I entered all of the categories including the Diorama category that was the leanest. On the final morning I put a few finishing touches to my models and took them down to the cabinet. I was a bit surprised to find they were starting to judge the entries even though there were 30minutes to the deadline! Nonetheless I got my stuff in, and knowing Mark had still not put his stuff in, warned the team manning the cabinet there might be others to come. Sure enough Mark turned up pretty much on the deadline and pulled…

Kromac vs. pMorghoul – 35pts Deathclock

My first Skorne outing since my prodigal son return

Another Deathclock game this time against pMorghoul. This time we were more generous with the clock taking an hour. This made for a more relaxed game but forced an exciting ending.

In this game I kept pretty much the same list I’m practising and across the table was a Bronzeback, Titan and a few heavy infantry. Pretty much a staple Skorne list but I was pleased not to see Kharn. In the early exchanges my Woldstalkers made reasonable progress down the flanks while Ghetorix and the Stalker held the middle ground. The Skorne list was tier 4 and this allowed it to gain extra movement toward the objectives so I gave away 3 control points early. This put the pressure on and I had to contest objectives to avoid a fast whitewash. I somewhat reluctantly pushed most of the force at the objectives but managed to get Ghetorix in a…

Month end panic

hear are some photos of this months gaming.  Marked by an awesome smogcon15, playing LOTR card game, a Star Realms and CoC.  WMH-wise I have returned to Skorne and have been enjoying playing 1 hour Deathclock with pMorghoul.  Victory has eluded me to date.

LOTR Card Game Storage Box

I’ve been playing LOTR Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games at home and at work. I am really enjoying it in co-op mode and solo. My collector instinct has awakened ( again😁) and I am buying up expansions and adventure packs on eBay. So apart from the dent in the paypal account my other problem is card storage. Here is my solution, cheap, cheerful and quick…..

In a nutshell, I took the Core box (I’ve got 2 sets). Stanley knifed the 2 grey side trays and put a staple (facing outwards) in each corner. These are wide enough for cards in UltraPro Standard protectors (don’t use the cheaper protector sleeves as they stick together and or only good for limited protection and useless for playing). The ones at either end need to be angled a little but not a big compromise.

I then placed the two trays at either side of the core box and there is room for more cards in the middle or to store the tickets and threat counter etc.

The tokens are held in little tubs I bought at a pound for ten in a pound store. I didn’t bother to sleeve my second set of Scenario and Encounter cards from the second box as I don’t think I’ll use them, so I’ll save some money on sleeves. To separate the different card types I cut the middle piece of the gary card and also the token ‘frame’ into card sized dividers.

For taking my cards out and about I use Ultra Pro deck boxes. The larger sized one can accommodate encounter cards and a couple of player decks. I use old credit cards or similar as separators. Here’s a picture…

By the way, I’m not sponsored by Ultra Pro but freebies would be nice😃.

Finally, I am using a little Gandalf mini bust that I picked up a while back from a collection magazine as an alternative first player marker. Here he is….

Now I must be off to play some cards!

January is a Long Month

Sadly not much (any) painting this month. Gaming highlight…

Humble Card Bundle, a ton of online card games on the PC. See humble

More Clash of Clans, played. I’m leader of Builder Huts OP (bluesquareboy TH7) which is a feeder clan for Clan Castle OP. I’m co-leader of CCOP. I play bluesquareman TH8 there.
Conquest and LOTR card game at work and home. Like goth want to focus on LOTR as the cooperative mechanics appeal to my wife.

I’ve played WMH a few Sunday’s at the clubs, here are some photos. Next month SMOGCON report.

Last Blog of 2014

Here goes… December has brought a lot of Clash of Clans, I am now a co-leader in a clan called Builders Hut OP and still really enjoying playing.

Santa brought Warhammer 40k Conquest, a Fantasy Flight card game. Looks really nice but not played yet.

He also brought Dozer and Smigg for my Hordes Trollbloods…

So that was Christmas done, few. I played Hordes at the BigUns last Sunday. a good game with Simon. PGrissel vs Rhyas. legion won😞

Lastly I’ve done some painting. My Mantic Undead army is rising. A quick and simple spray with Army Painter Bolt Action German Dunkel Gelb, a quick lick of colour and some Army Painter blue and green inks.

And zombies…

But there are many, many more zombies to come (base sprayed only)……

Thanks for reading my blog this year, I hope you enjoyed it or found it useful. See you in 2015.
